About me

My name is Veronika Nowag-Jones.
I am a trained actress (Leipzig) and, after my studies, spent three years at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar. Following my escape from East Germany, I first ended up in prison in Erfurt before fleeing again—this time successfully—to the West. I initially settled in Bremen, where I worked for four years with George Tabori at his groundbreaking Theaterlabor at the city theater.
My most cherished moments are those when I pushed myself to keep moving forward.
In the early 1980s, I moved to New York, where I met and married the love of my life: jazz musician Sirone (1940–2009). Creatively, we were a great team, collaborating internationally in jazz, poetry, and theater productions. I directed projects in Groningen (Stadsschouwburg), Caracas (Venezuela), and across the U.S. (Atlanta, Knoxville, New York City). In New York, I staged a critically acclaimed project with homeless women, which was later performed in Europe as well.
“She’s a trickster. Something blossoms from within her.”
—Maria Piscator
Teaching is another passion of mine. I thrive on the intense exchange and continuous growth that comes with it! I had the privilege of teaching alongside the legendary Maria Ley-Piscator at Stony Brook University in New York. Back in Berlin, I spent nearly 25 years as a coach and instructor for on-camera work at the Institute for Acting, Film, and Television Professions (iSFF) at the Volkshochschule Berlin-Mitte.
In addition to coaching, I continue to perform regularly on stage and appear in film and television productions—including international projects. My latest U.S. production is the Amazon Prime series Hunters (starring Al Pacino).
I am represented by Goldbaum Management, Berlin, where you can find more examples of my film and television work, along with my showreel.
I live and work in Berlin-Kreuzberg and New York City.
